Where ABAP developers
practice together
A free, full-day event for TDD, pair programming, and crafted code.
No slides. No lectures. Just code.
Since 2016 — founded by Damir Majer & Christian Drumm
The next event will be announced soon.
What is ABAP CodeRetreat?
A CodeRetreat is a full-day practice event. Four to five sessions of 45 minutes each, all focused on one kata. You pair with a different partner each round. You write tests first. You refactor. And then — you delete everything and start fresh.
No deadlines. No deliverables. No boss watching. Just you, a partner, and the craft of writing clean ABAP code.
The format was invented by Corey Haines. We adapted it for the ABAP world in 2016 and have been running events across Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, and Poland ever since.
4-5 Coding Sessions
45 minutes each, new partner every round
Delete Your Code
Focus on learning, not on shipping
Pair Programming
Learn from every partner you work with
Intro + What's New
We start with an intro session and share what's new for ABAP developers
The original CodeRetreat uses 5-6 sessions of pure coding. We adapted the format: every event begins with a hands-on intro session for newcomers and a "What's new for ABAP Devs?" segment where we explore recent developments in the ABAP ecosystem together. Then the coding sessions begin.
In a world of remote work and AI copilots, this is a day where real humans sit together and write code.
Seniors learn from juniors. Juniors learn from seniors.
Titles stay at the door.Everyone is here for the same reason: curiosity and the craft of writing better code.
